My informative speech is about Table Tennis. On the day of the speech, I felt nervous already because I’m not used in speaking in public. I’m the third speaker so I have plenty of time to prepare. When the second speaker was about to end, that’s the time that I felt really nervous. My hands are shaking and sweating. When I came in front of the class, I managed to think of the positive things. I always think that I can do it because my classmates have done it already. When I was starting my speech, my voice is a bit awkward because of the nervousness that I’m experiencing but as I continue my speech, I felt a bit comfortable about it. In my speech, I try to panic sometimes especially when I’m having technical difficulties or about my powerpoint. As I am going through my speech, my nervousness lessened. I observed that my classmates are quiet and I think they enjoyed my powerpoint because it has a lot of pictures. My classmates helped me to overcome my fear because I’ve seen them listening and paying attention to what I am speaking even if it is a bit boring.
In my persuasive speech, I will try my best to lessen my readings in front of the class. I will organize my outline well so that I will not have a problem in my time because in my informative speech, I consumed much time than the required time given to us. I hope that cue cards are allowed in the upcoming persuasive speech so that students, like me, will have a guide on our speeches and I think that it will help a lot for us.
The first question that I chose is from Marco Cantalejo. He wants to know the reason why red and black were the colors of the paddle. Rackets used in competition, and at many table tennis clubs, are required to have red and black rubber sheets on opposite sides. This rule was enacted to prevent players who use either two different advanced specialized rubber sheets with very different playing characteristics. This would have the effect of confusing the opponent as to which of the two radically different rubber sheets was actually used to strike the ball.
The second one is from Paul Buenvenida. He wants to know if the Philippines has its own table tennis team. The answer is yes, we have our own team in table tennis. The national table tennis team won seven gold and two silver medals in the recently concluded 2011 US Open Table Tennis Championships held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was led by South East Asian Games veteran, Richard Gonzales. He bagged 3 gold medals in different categories.
The last question that I chose is from Aubrey Tolentino. She asked me the reason why table tennis is called that way. The sport got its start in England towards the end of the 18th century when, after dinner, some upper-middle class Victorians decided to turn their dining room tables into miniature versions of the traditional lawn tennis playing field. That’s why they call it table tennis. It’s a racket sport that is played on table and is a miniature version of lawn tennis.
